Spring and Shock

The original shock and spring combo is ok for daily use but not so much if you pretend to do some spirited driving or even have a car that looks good.

With that in mid, the first modification done was the installation of Eibach Pro-Kit spring applied to the original shock absorver (video on youtube) this made the car a little more firm as gave it a better tire to fender gap.

The one problem that this brought was the unbalance between string rate and the shock dampening capacity, it made the car more unstable when it found imperfections on the street.

Having said that, if I intended to use the car only as a daily I would have stayed here. It way the best compromise between comfort and appearances.

Next up, to achieve a better balance between spring rate and the shock dampening, I had the shock absorbers rebuild and the pressure of the fluid increased to provide more damping capacity to cope with the new spring harmonic oscillation.

harmonic oscillation and damping

After almost three years of riding this combination, I recently changed the top hats for some Silverproject camber plates to give me more ability to improve the set up .

The last step of modification on this coilover set up was the addition of stiffer bump stops on the front shocks. These were cut so that they were not preloaded, but went into compression as soon as the damper was compressed, taking off some of the roll left in the front end. This also contributed for a more balanced set up in terms of oversteer/understeer
